This simple yet elegant dessert is ideal for gifting or holiday entertaining, requiring only basic techniques for a stunning, glossy result.

Ingredients

Scale

12 ounces dark chocolate (60% cocoa)
12 ounces high-quality white chocolate couverture chips
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
4 large candy canes, crushed

Instructions

Prepare a double boiler by placing a heat-proof bowl over a pot of simmering water.
Add dark chocolate to the bowl and stir continuously until melted and smooth.
Remove from heat and stir in half of the peppermint extract.
Pour dark chocolate onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and spread into a thin, even layer.
Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes until firm.
Clean the bowl and melt the white chocolate using the same double-boiler method.
Remove from heat and stir in the remaining peppermint extract.
Pour white chocolate over the chilled dark chocolate layer.
Spread evenly with an offset spatula.
Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top.
Refrigerate for at least one hour until completely set.
Break into irregular, bite-sized shards with a sharp knife.

Notes

Use real chocolate couverture instead of standard baking chips for a better snap and superior shine. Store the bark in an airtight container in a cool, dry place or the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
