Simmered in a savory, tangy tomato sauce, this dish is perfect for a quick, family-friendly weeknight dinner that satisfies cravings for comfort food without the heaviness of traditional beef.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground chicken (93/7 lean to fat ratio)
1 small onion, finely diced
1 medium bell pepper, finely diced
1.5 cups tomato sauce (no salt added)
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp halal Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp neutral cooking oil

Instructions

Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the diced onions and bell peppers, sautéing for about 5 minutes until softened.
Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until browned completely.
Stir in the tomato paste, garlic powder, and brown sugar until the chicken is evenly coated.
Pour in the tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until thoroughly combined.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce reaches a thick, sloppy consistency.

Notes

For the best texture, toast your sandwich buns before serving. Serve with a side of coleslaw or a fresh green salad to complete the meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
