Designed for bakers of all skill levels, this recipe skips complex techniques, offering a foolproof method to achieve a professional-quality, golden-brown pie that is ideal for any gathering or cozy night at home.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp cold butter, cubed
2 pieces standard 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel, core, and slice apples into uniform quarter-inch thick wedges.
In a large bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
Roll out one crust and place into a nine-inch pie dish.
Pour the apple mixture into the crust, mounding in the center.
Dot the top of the fruit with the cubed butter.
Cover with the second crust and crimp edges to seal.
Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

You can increase the sugar to 1 cup if you prefer a sweeter filling. Ensure the butter is kept cold until the moment it goes into the pie to ensure a flakier crust. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to set.
