Perfect for family gatherings, it requires minimal hands-on effort and tastes even better the next day.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs lean ground beef (85/15)
15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
15 oz can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
28 oz can fire-roasted diced tomatoes
1 cup low-sodium beef broth
3 tbsp chili powder
1 large onion, diced finely
1 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)

Instructions

Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked.
Drain the excess fat from the skillet thoroughly.
Combine the cooked beef, beans, tomatoes, broth, chili powder, and onion in the slow cooker.
Stir in the cocoa powder if using.
Mix all ingredients well to ensure spices are evenly distributed.
Cover the slow cooker securely.
Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours for optimal flavor integration.

Notes

Toast the chili powder in a dry pan for 30 seconds before adding to the pot to unlock aromatic oils. Stir the mixture halfway through the cooking process for best results. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
