Ingredients

Scale

4 cups Granny Smith apples, sliced thin
4 cups Honeycrisp apples, peeled and cored
1 cup Old Fashioned oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 pinch sea salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with half of the cinnamon and a splash of lemon juice.
Toss the fruit until evenly coated and spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple layer.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping turns a deep golden brown.
Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not use instant oats as they will become mushy. Keep the butter very cold to ensure the topping remains crumbly rather than turning into a paste. You may substitute almond flour to make this recipe gluten-free.
