It is topped with a buttery, golden oat streusel that provides a perfect crunch. A timeless dessert that is simple to prepare, this recipe is ideal for cozy family gatherings and is naturally alcohol-free.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups apples, mixed Granny Smith and Honeycrisp, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats, old-fashioned
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch wedges.
Combine sliced apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and toss well.
Transfer the apple mixture to a 9×9 baking dish.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, and rolled oats.
Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture is crumbly.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple base.
Bake for 45 minutes until the fruit is tender and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Use a pastry cutter to avoid melting the butter with your hands for a crunchier topping. You can substitute the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend if needed. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
