It is designed to ensure the perfect moisture-to-bread ratio, providing a satisfying texture in every bite that pairs beautifully with traditional roasted vegetables or meat alternatives.

Ingredients

Scale

10 cups dried sourdough or crusty white bread cubes
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 large yellow onion, finely diced
3 celery stalks, thinly sliced
3 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
1 tablespoon fresh sage, minced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, stripped from stems
1 teaspoon kosher salt
0.5 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Spread the bread cubes onto a large rimmed baking sheet in a single layer and toast for 10 minutes until firm.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the diced onions and sliced celery to the skillet and sauté for 8 minutes until softened and translucent.
Transfer the toasted bread cubes into a very large mixing bowl.
Add the sautéed vegetables, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the bread.
Gradually pour the vegetable broth over the mixture, tossing gently until the bread is evenly moistened but not mushy.
Transfer the mixture to a buttered baking dish.
Bake for 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can sauté a handful of chopped mushrooms with the onions and celery. If the stuffing appears too dry, add an extra splash of vegetable broth before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
